COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Rural Estate and Land Management (REALM) programme is a professionally accredited degree designed to prepare students for careers in rural surveying, land management, estate management, and related property and agricultural sectors. In Year 1, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Academic Development and Professional Practice, Surveying Practice, Building Construction, Pathology and Regulation, Rural Land Issues and Policy Development, Introduction to Agricultural Production Systems, Valuation with Land and Property Economics, and Introduction to Business, Finance and Law, which build essential technical and professional skills. Year 2 focuses on more advanced and applied learning through modules including Career and Data Management, Farming and Management of the Natural Environment, Planning and Development, Compulsory Purchase and Sustainable Rural Infrastructure Delivery, Property Agency and Tenancy Law, and Valuation, Taxation and Investment Appraisal, with optional study such as Woodland Creation. Year 3 is a placement year, providing industry experience and professional development in real-world rural and property settings. In Year 4, students complete a Dissertation in Land and Property Management alongside advanced modules such as Valuation and Professional Practice, Strategic Estate Management, and Farm Business Management and Investment, with optional topics including Event Management and Diversification and Global Agricultural Land Investment. Overall, the programme prepares graduates for RICS-accredited careers in rural surveying, estate management, and land consultancy.
