COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Applied Zoology (with placement) programme is a four-year degree that provides a broad and applied understanding of animal biology, ecology, and conservation. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Vertebrate Biology, Invertebrate Biology, Ecology, Biodiversity and the Natural Environment, Animal Health and Nutrition, Welfare, Ethics, Law and Policy, Key Skills in Zoology, and a Field Skills and Field Course module, which develop essential scientific and practical abilities. Year 2 expands into more specialised and applied topics, including Ecosystems and Conservation Biology with Field Course, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Genetics, Animal Behaviour and Behavioural Ecology, Global Environmental Challenges, Professional Skills for Zoologists, and Anthrozoology, along with an elective such as Sustainability in Practice. Year 3 is a placement year, allowing students to gain hands-on experience, apply theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts, and build professional networks. In Year 4, students complete advanced study through modules such as Honours Research Dissertation, Recent Advances in Zoological Sciences, Zoology Field Course (including international options), Applied Conservation for Managed Populations, and Applied Management for Biodiversity. Overall, the programme equips students with strong scientific, analytical, and field-based skills for careers in conservation, ecology, environmental management, and zoological sciences.
