COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Welfare (Clinical) (with placement) programme is structured over four years and provides a strong foundation in animal science, behaviour, and welfare alongside clinical and professional training. In Year 1, students study core modules including Animal Biology, Animal Husbandry and Management, Animal Health, Evolution, Genetics and Behaviour, Introduction to Animal Welfare and Ethics, Skills for the Animal Scientist, and Business in Animal Industries, which establish key scientific and industry knowledge. Year 2 develops more specialised expertise through Principles of Animal Behaviour, Ethics, Law and Business Practice, Animal Health and Behaviour, Welfare Science, Applied Behaviour for the Clinical Animal Behaviourist, and Professional Development for Animal Careers, along with an elective such as Animals for Assistance and Therapy. Year 3 is a placement year, giving students the opportunity to gain practical industry experience, apply theoretical knowledge, build professional networks, and explore career pathways. In Year 4, students complete advanced and clinical-level study through modules including Consultation Skills for Animal Professionals, Applied Animal Learning and Training, Applied Health, Welfare and Behaviour, Diagnosis and Treatment of Behavioural Problems, and a major Dissertation project. Overall, the programme equips students with scientific understanding, clinical skills, and professional experience, preparing them for careers in animal behaviour, welfare consultancy, and related clinical roles.
