COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Applied Data Science curriculum provides a comprehensive blend of computing, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and professional skills, preparing students for careers in the digital and data-driven economy. In the first year, students build strong foundations in computing technology, programming concepts, data visualisation, artificial intelligence, and data-driven thinking, while also developing essential academic and professional skills. The second year focuses on advanced technical and analytical capabilities through modules in databases, information design, interdisciplinary projects, Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing, artificial intelligence frameworks, and the ethical and sustainability challenges associated with emerging technologies. These modules help students understand how data systems operate in real-world environments and how technology can be applied responsibly. In the final year, students deepen their expertise through specialised study in artificial intelligence methods, generative AI, deep learning for computer vision, and statistical learning. A substantial honours degree project allows students to undertake independent research and solve complex real-world problems using advanced data science techniques. Throughout the programme, students develop skills in programming, machine learning, data analysis, visualisation, problem-solving, research, and ethical decision-making. The course combines theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring graduates are well prepared for careers in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business analytics, software development, and other technology-focused professions.
