COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour and Welfare (Clinical) programme is structured over three years and is designed to develop a strong scientific and practical understanding of animal behaviour, health, and welfare. In Year 1, students build a foundation through modules such as Animal Biology, Animal Husbandry and Management, Animal Health, Evolution, Genetics and Behaviour, Introduction to Animal Welfare and Ethics, Skills for the Animal Scientist, and Business in Animal Industries, which introduce core biological, ethical, and industry-related concepts. Year 2 focuses on developing specialist knowledge and professional skills through modules including Principles of Animal Behaviour, Animal Health and Behaviour, Welfare Science, Applied Behaviour for the Clinical Animal Behaviourist, Ethics, Law and Business Practice, and Professional Development for Animal Careers, alongside an elective such as Animals for Assistance and Therapy. In Year 3, students advance to applied and clinical-level study with modules including Dissertation, Consultation Skills for Animal Professionals, Applied Animal Learning and Training, Applied Health, Welfare and Behaviour, and Diagnosis and Treatment of Behavioural Problems. Overall, the programme equips students with scientific expertise, analytical skills, and practical experience in animal behaviour and welfare, preparing them for careers in clinical animal behaviour, welfare consultancy, animal training, and related professional roles within the animal care and science industries.
