COURSE CURRICULUM

The advanced modules in public health and research are designed to build critical expertise in evaluating, designing, and applying evidence-based strategies to improve population health outcomes. “Advanced Research Methods” develops learners’ abilities to critically appraise empirical literature, compare qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and answer practice-based questions through structured research. This module strengthens skills in data collection, ethical research design, and interpretation, enabling students to generate meaningful insights in their chosen field. “The Principles and Theory of Public Health Practice” introduces foundational concepts and the historical evolution of public health, emphasizing frameworks, health needs assessments, and policy development. It explores how leadership and the broader public health workforce shape intervention outcomes. “Epidemiology: Principles, Application and Evaluation in Practice” equips students with the tools to conduct epidemiological studies, analyze patterns of health and illness, and apply findings to develop and assess public health programs. In “Social Action Approaches in Public Health,” students examine how community development strategies, rooted in the Social Determinants of Health model, empower communities to combat health inequalities. The module encourages critical evaluation of how theory translates into practice through social action. “Evidence Based Public Health” furthers understanding of how to source, synthesize, and apply evidence to real-world public health problems. Students are taught to use evaluation tools and frameworks to critically assess interventions and inform policy and practice. Finally, “Applied Statistics and Data Analysis for Public Health” provides essential training in interpreting statistical information, conducting analyses, and using software tools to answer public health questions. Collectively, these modules foster advanced analytical, ethical, and practical capabilities essential for research-driven, impactful public health practice. They prepare learners to lead and contribute to data-informed decision-making, effective interventions, and equitable health outcomes at community and policy levels.
