COURSE CURRICULUM

The law degree program is structured over four years, progressively building students' legal knowledge, critical thinking, and professional skills. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental areas of law through core modules such as Introduction to Legal Systems and Study, Criminal Law and Evidence, Global Challenges for Business and Society, Family and Child Law, Public Law, and Law of Obligations. These modules provide a solid grounding in legal principles, institutional structures, and societal issues, preparing students for more advanced legal study. In the second year, students deepen their understanding with core modules like Commercial Law 1 and 2, Property and Land Rights, Scots Law: Human Rights, the State and Accountability, and Ethics and Responsible Leadership. They also develop practical abilities through the Skills for Legal Employment module, gaining experience in legal research, writing, and professional conduct. The third year focuses on more advanced legal analysis with core modules such as The Law of the European Union and Advanced Legal Studies and Skills, helping students explore legal complexities and refine their academic and practical competencies. In the final year, students complete a Dissertation in Law, allowing them to research a specific legal topic in depth and demonstrate their ability to work independently. Overall, the program combines academic rigor with skill development, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers in legal practice, public service, or further academic study.
