COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year computing degree program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in computer science, software development, and emerging technologies. In the first year, students are introduced to the core concepts of computer systems, software engineering, and networking. They also begin their programming journey with Programming 0, while gaining essential mathematical skills through Mathematics for Computing. Practical Computing and Database Development are also key components, helping students build hands-on skills. The second year builds on these basics, introducing Programming 1 and 2, Object Oriented Analysis and Design, and Human Computer Interaction, which focuses on designing user-friendly systems. Students also learn about software development methodologies in Software Processes and Practice and begin their journey in web technologies through Web Application Development 1. In the third year, the curriculum expands to include advanced topics like data science and DevOps, promoting teamwork and project management through a Group Project. Programming 3 and Web Application Development 2 deepen technical skills, while Research Skills and Professional Issues prepare students for final-year projects and professional environments. The fourth and final year focuses on specialized and cutting-edge areas. Students explore Mobile Platform Development, Big Data and IoT, and Cloud Platform Development. Information Security ensures students understand how to protect systems and data, which is crucial in today's digital world. The program concludes with an Honours Project, where students demonstrate their accumulated knowledge and skills by developing a comprehensive solution to a real-world problem. Throughout the degree, students progress from foundational knowledge to specialized expertise, with a balanced mix of theory, practice, and professional development. The curriculum is carefully structured to prepare graduates for the demands of the modern tech industry, equipping them with the skills required for careers in software development, data science, cybersecurity, and other IT-related fields.
