COURSE CURRICULUM

The Radiotherapy degree program is a four-year course designed to develop the clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills required for a professional career in radiotherapy. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules such as Preparation for Professional Practice, Anatomy for Radiographers, Fundamentals of Human Physiology, Radiotherapy and Oncology, Physics for Radiographers, and Practice Education 1. These modules introduce key concepts in anatomy, physiology, oncology, and radiation physics, while the first practice placement gives students early exposure to clinical environments. In the second year, learning deepens with modules like Individuals, Teams and Communities, Radiotherapy and Oncology 2, Anatomy for Radiographers 2, Advanced Imaging, and Practice Education 2. This year emphasizes collaborative healthcare, imaging technology, and further anatomy relevant to radiotherapy. The third year focuses on specialist knowledge and leadership skills. Modules include Radiotherapy Treatment Planning and Brachytherapy, Radiotherapy and Oncology 3, Understanding Professional Teams and Leadership, Methodology and Research for Effective Practice, and Practice Education 3. These areas prepare students for complex treatment planning, working within multidisciplinary teams, and engaging with evidence-based practice. In the final year, students study Advancements and Safety in Radiotherapy and Person Centred Care, complete an Honours Project, and undertake their final clinical placement with Practice Education 4. This stage consolidates all prior learning and emphasizes innovation, safety, and the delivery of compassionate, patient-focused care. Graduates of this program are equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professionalism to work confidently in radiotherapy departments, contributing to the effective treatment and care of individuals with cancer.
