COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year podiatry degree program is structured to develop both the academic knowledge and clinical skills needed for a career in foot and lower limb healthcare. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational subjects including Anatomy and Function, Fundamentals of Human Physiology, and Podiatric Pathology and Assessment Skills. These modules provide essential understanding of the human body and podiatric conditions. Preparation for Professional Practice supports students in developing the values and behaviors expected in healthcare, while the Introduction to Podiatric Practice module, which includes a summer placement, offers early exposure to clinical environments and practical skills. In the second year, the curriculum builds on this foundation with modules such as Individuals, Teams and Communities, which emphasizes interprofessional working, and Medicine and Pathophysiology for Podiatrists, focusing on the medical knowledge relevant to podiatric care. Musculoskeletal Structure and Pathology explores disorders of the foot and lower limb, and students also begin to develop their research skills through Methodology and Research for Effective Practice. Podiatric Practice 2 and Surgery and Medicines for Administration offer further clinical training and insights into podiatric pharmacology and surgical procedures. The third year introduces more advanced clinical practice, with modules such as Evidence Based Musculoskeletal Injury and Rehabilitation and High Risk Foot and Limb, preparing students to manage complex cases. Podiatric Pharmacology and POM-S focuses on the safe and effective use of medicines, while Podiatric Practice 3 and Understanding Professional Teams and Leadership continue to enhance clinical competency and leadership skills. In the final year, students complete their Honours Project, undertake the final clinical placement through Podiatric Practice 4, and explore current trends and professional transition in Contemporary Podiatric Practice and Into Employment. The program combines in-depth academic learning with extensive clinical training, preparing graduates for confident and competent practice as registered podiatrists.
