COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year physiotherapy degree program is structured to equip students with a solid foundation in human anatomy, clinical skills, and professional practice, gradually building towards complex care and independent clinical reasoning. In the first year, students begin with Anatomy and Examination 1 and 2, providing a detailed understanding of the human body and essential assessment techniques. These are supported by studies in Biomechanics and Physical Activity, Fundamentals of Human Physiology, and Health Perspectives in Physiotherapy Practice, laying the groundwork for understanding health and movement from both scientific and practical perspectives. In the second year, the focus shifts toward clinical application with modules such as Neuromusculoskeletal Management, Cardiac and Respiratory Practice, and Neurorehabilitation. These subjects help students understand the treatment of various conditions, while Individuals, Teams and Communities encourages collaborative healthcare practices. Methodology and Research for Effective Practice introduces students to evidence-based practice, and the year includes the first Practice Education Placement to apply learning in real clinical settings. The third year is more practice-oriented, emphasizing on-the-ground experience through additional Practice Education Placements. Modules like Understanding Professional Teams and Leadership and Complex Care 1 prepare students for working with diverse teams and managing patients with multiple or long-term conditions. The fourth year brings advanced practice into focus, with students undertaking their Honours Project, which involves independent research, along with continuing education in Complex Care 2 and final Practice Education Placements. These placements solidify clinical competence and readiness for professional registration. Across the program, students develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills essential for modern physiotherapy. The structured mix of academic learning, hands-on practice, and research engagement ensures graduates are well-prepared to work in varied healthcare settings and contribute meaningfully to patient care and rehabilitation.
