COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mental Health Nursing degree is a four-year program designed to develop skilled, compassionate professionals equipped to support individuals experiencing mental health challenges. In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of nursing through modules such as Values and Rights Based Nursing Practice, Health Improvement, Contemporary Health Care Delivery, and Introduction to Evidence Based Practice. These establish a solid ethical, theoretical, and practical base for further study. Year 2 moves into mental health-specific topics, including Working in Interprofessional Teams, Understanding Experiences of Recovery in Mental Health, and Human Response to Stress and Vulnerability. These modules help students appreciate the psychological, social, and emotional aspects of recovery and care.In Year 3, students build on this knowledge through Applying Evidence Based Practice, Psychosocial Interventions in Mental Health, and Enhancing Skills in Mental Health Nursing. These modules provide practical tools and therapeutic approaches for delivering effective, person-centred care. The program culminates in Year 4 with an Honours Level Dissertation, allowing students to explore a topic of interest in depth, alongside Leadership in Interprofessional Teams and Advancing the Application of Values Based Nursing Practice in Health and Social Care. These final modules prepare students for professional registration and leadership roles, emphasizing reflective practice, clinical decision-making, and collaboration. The degree integrates academic study with clinical placements, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to support individuals across a wide range of mental health services.
