COURSE CURRICULUM

The child nursing program is structured over four years, designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care to children and young people. In the first year, students are introduced to essential nursing concepts through core modules such as Values and Rights Based Nursing Practice, Health Improvement, Contemporary Health Care Delivery, and Introduction to Evidence Based Practice. These foundational modules lay the groundwork for understanding ethical care practices, healthcare systems, and the importance of evidence in clinical decision-making. In the second year, the program focuses on developing specialized skills for child nursing with modules like Developing Professional Skills for Child Nursing Practice and The Context of Care for Children, Young People, and their Families. These courses deepen students’ understanding of the unique needs of children in healthcare settings and the importance of family-centered care. The third year builds on this knowledge with modules such as Consolidating Professional Skills for Child Nursing Practice and Continuing Conditions in the Context of Children's Nursing, which focus on managing long-term conditions and enhancing clinical expertise. In the final year, students focus on advanced professional development, completing an Honours Level Dissertation and studying Leadership in Interprofessional Teams. The module Advancing the Application of Values Based Nursing Practice in Health and Social Care allows students to refine their leadership and critical thinking skills, preparing them for the responsibilities and complexities of child nursing practice. By the end of the program, students are well-prepared to lead and collaborate in healthcare teams, apply evidence-based practices, and deliver high-quality, compassionate care to children and their families in diverse healthcare environments.
