The BSc (Hons) Computer Games degree offers two specialized streams—Games Design and Games Software Development—allowing students to tailor their studies based on their interests in the creative or technical aspects of game creation. In Year 1, students build core skills in both design and development with modules such as Introduction to Games Programming, Introduction to Game Design, Maths for Computer Games, and Introduction to 3D Modelling. An Integrated Project and foundational studies in computer systems and cloud networking provide a broad base of technical and creative knowledge.In Year 2, students choose their specialization. Both streams share modules like Design of Playful Experiences, Working With Game Engines, Human-Computer Interaction, and Integrated Project 2. The Design stream focuses on storytelling and gameplay, with modules like Games Narrative and Game Content and Level Design. The Development stream dives into Programming Structure and Design and hands-on coding in Unreal Engine, building the skills needed for game software engineering.Year 3 emphasizes collaboration and professional preparation. Students take Game Preproduction Workshop and Research Skills and Professional Issues, and continue stream-specific studies. Designers explore Serious Games, Game User Research, and User Psychology, while developers tackle advanced programming topics including AI and core development practices in Games Programming 1 and 2. An Integrated Project ties theory to practice in real-world-style game development scenarios.In the final year, all students complete an Honours Project and a professional Portfolio, demonstrating their capabilities to future employers. Design students explore experimental approaches and systemic game mechanics through modules like Experimental Games and Game System Design. Development students refine their technical mastery in Graphics Programming, Network Game Programming, and Games Programming 3. The program prepares graduates for careers in game design, programming, development, or interactive media, with a strong focus on industry-relevant tools and practices.
