COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year Environmental Sustainability degree program is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of environmental issues, sustainable practices, and the role of policy and planning in promoting sustainability. In Year 1, students are introduced to key topics such as Urban Issues, Natural Resource Management, and Sustainability Online. They also study the principles of workplace legislation and construction materials, building a foundational understanding of how sustainability can be applied in various sectors. Year 2 delves deeper into environmental topics with modules on Environmental Policy and Regulation, Society, Politics and Sustainability, and Environmental Science and Measurement. Students also learn about Environmental Assessment, Urban Planning, and the principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is crucial for spatial analysis in environmental work. In Year 3, students gain practical work experience, which could involve working with local authorities, environmental consultancies, energy companies, or studying abroad. This year also emphasizes GIS specialization, along with the study of Climate Change: Impact, Mitigation, and Adaptation, and Corporate Sustainability. Year 4 focuses on independent research and specialization. Students complete an Honours Dissertation in their preferred area of interest. They also choose from specialist modules such as Urban Regeneration, Energy Resource Management, Waste Management, Project GIS, Water Policy and Management, and Sustainability in the Built Environment. This final year ensures that students are prepared for professional roles in sustainability, environmental consultancy, policy-making, or urban planning, with expertise in both technical and strategic aspects of environmental management. The program equips graduates with the knowledge and skills to address current and future environmental challenges effectively.
