COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science program offers a structured and in-depth journey through the biological sciences, progressing from fundamental principles to advanced clinical and research applications. In Year 1, students develop a solid grounding in human biology, biological chemistry, and systematic physiology, while gaining essential academic and laboratory competencies through core bioscience skills. Year 2 builds on this foundation by exploring the mechanisms of disease and diagnostic science, with key modules in infection and immunity, cellular regulation and metabolism, clinical biochemistry, and haematology, alongside further development of practical and clinical laboratory skills. Year 3 focuses on specialised and applied biomedical sciences, covering clinical genetics, pathology, and clinical microbiology, and offering flexibility through a range of optional modules such as experimental design and analysis, bioinformatics, microbiology trends, nutrition and public health, forensic pharmacology, or a bioscience placement to gain real-world experience. In Year 4, students integrate their knowledge through independent projects and workshops, while advancing their understanding of disease processes, translational medicine, advanced blood science, and infectious diseases. Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on analytical thinking, research skills, and professional practice, preparing graduates for careers in healthcare laboratories, biomedical research, public health, or further postgraduate study.
