COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year audio engineering and sound production degree is designed to blend creative and technical skills, preparing students for a broad range of careers in the audio and music technology industries. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge with modules such as Sound Production 1, Introduction to Audio Systems, and Audio in Society, which introduce them to recording techniques, system design, and the cultural context of audio work. Technical understanding is developed through Engineering Science, Electrical Principles, and Mathematics 1, ensuring a strong grasp of the scientific principles behind audio technologies. In the second year, the program advances with Sound Production 2 and Sound Reinforcement, focusing on studio and live audio production. Students explore Analogue and Digital Electronics and begin working with IoT Systems 1, which connects audio systems to emerging digital technologies. Integrated Audio Studies 2 and Mathematics 2 further support students’ technical and analytical development. The third year emphasizes specialization and creativity, with modules including Musical Acoustics, Audio Processing and Effects, Games Sound Design, Audio and Interactivity, and Audio Analysis and Assessment. Integrated Engineering Studies bridges technical and creative disciplines. Students also have the option to take modules in Signals and Electronic Systems Design or participate in Volunteering in a Technical Role, which allows them to gain hands-on industry experience and enhance their portfolio. In the final year, students undertake an Honours Project that showcases their skills through a significant piece of independent work. Advanced modules such as Games Sound Design 2, Acoustics and Spatial Sound, Advanced Audio Processing, and Converging Technology for AV address current trends in immersive audio, game audio, and system integration. An optional module in Digital Signal Processing is available for students who entered in earlier years. This program offers a dynamic combination of sound production, engineering, and interactive technology, equipping graduates for roles in studio work, game audio, sound design, or acoustic consultancy.
