COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Applied Biomedical Science program provides a comprehensive progression from fundamental biological concepts to advanced clinical and research-focused learning. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in human biology through the study of human body structure and function, biological chemistry, and systematic physiology, alongside developing essential laboratory and academic skills in biosciences. Year 2 deepens scientific understanding with a focus on disease mechanisms and diagnostic science, covering infection and immunity, cellular regulation and metabolism, and key clinical disciplines such as clinical biochemistry and haematology, while further enhancing practical competencies through advanced bioscience and clinical skills training. In Year 3, learning becomes increasingly applied and clinically relevant, with modules in clinical genetics, pathology, and clinical microbiology, complemented by a practice placement that provides real-world laboratory experience and professional insight. Year 4 emphasises integration, innovation, and specialisation, allowing students to undertake projects and workshops while exploring the biology of disease, translational medicine, advanced blood science, and infectious disease concepts. Across all years, the program is designed to develop scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and critical thinking, preparing graduates for professional practice, postgraduate study, or research careers within biomedical and healthcare sciences.
