COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Risk Management degree is designed to develop students' expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in a business and societal context. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts in economics, law, and risk through modules such as Fundamentals of Risk Management, Global Challenges for Business and Society, and Organisational Risk and Resilience. These are complemented by practical skills training in quantitative data analysis and an understanding of legal principles relevant to business.In Year 2, the curriculum builds on this foundation by exploring risk in global and applied contexts. Modules such as Managing Risks in a Global Economy and Management of Health, Safety and Environmental Risk provide insight into international and operational risk scenarios. The Risk Clinic: Applied Practice 1 introduces students to real-world risk scenarios, giving them practical experience in applying theoretical knowledge. Ethics and Responsible Leadership is also a key focus, emphasizing the importance of ethical decision-making in risk-related roles.Year 3 shifts focus to advanced topics such as Crisis Management and Operational Resilience, where students learn to handle high-pressure situations and maintain business continuity. Other core modules include Risk and Society, which examines the societal impacts of risk, and Principles of Insurance, offering a detailed look at one of the most important risk mitigation tools. The second Risk Clinic continues the applied learning approach, while Project Risk Management trains students in managing uncertainty in complex projects.In the final year, students undertake an Honours Research Project, allowing them to conduct in-depth investigation into a specific area of interest. The final core module, Corporate Risk Strategy, Culture and Leadership, brings together strategic and organisational perspectives on managing risk at the highest levels. Overall, the degree equips graduates with a blend of analytical, practical, and strategic skills suitable for careers in risk consultancy, corporate governance, insurance, and compliance.
