COURSE CURRICULUM

This course offers a practical, studio-based postgraduate education in prosthetic effects, blending hands-on technical training with theoretical insight and professional development. Students will deepen their knowledge of essential software programs and fabrication techniques while working in both academic and professional studio environments. The course focuses on developing a critically reflective and technically accomplished portfolio that demonstrates a strong understanding of prosthetic effects and related creative practices. Students are introduced to key contemporary debates and industry contexts that shape the field, encouraging them to think critically about the creative and commercial dimensions of prosthetic effects work. Core learning is supported through practical workshops in design, drawing, making, presentation, and industry awareness. The course is structured around five modules. Contextual Studies enhances theoretical understanding of critical ideas relevant to prosthetic effects. Building Blocks introduces and strengthens core practical skills and foundational processes in prosthetic effects production. Industrial Context helps students develop a professional portfolio and gain direct exposure to the realities of working in professional studios. Breaking the Mould encourages creative experimentation, allowing students to push the boundaries of their design and fabrication techniques. Finally, PFX Production focuses on developing a cohesive, industry-standard body of work, preparing students to transition into the competitive world of prosthetic effects with confidence and clarity of creative direction.
