COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Feature Filmmaking course offers a comprehensive and immersive learning experience through three structured study blocks. In the first block, students explore their personal development within the context of a film production crew, considering roles in both independent and larger productions. The Feature Film Crew module encourages critical reflection on recruitment, inclusivity, and systemic barriers within the industry. Simultaneously, in the Feature Film Development module, students generate, develop, and pitch an original action genre feature film idea. This includes crafting a detailed pitch deck, considering story, tone, casting, locations, and marketing strategies, as well as gaining foundational knowledge of film finance, budgeting, and international distribution pipelines.In the second study block, the course focuses on pre-production and marketing. Students actively participate in casting, location scouting, and risk assessments for the green-lit film project. The Feature Film Marketing module examines how films reach audiences, highlighting sales agents, distributors, and market positioning, while also involving students in creating a marketing strategy inspired by a case study analysis. The Feature Film Production module allows students to define and document their own roles within the project’s pre-production phase, presenting work-in-progress and building a professional portfolio.The final study block centers entirely on executing the planned feature film. In the Feature Film Production and Delivery module, students take on specialist roles during principal photography and contribute to post-production. This stage also provides space for critical reflection, encouraging students to evaluate their creative growth, assess how real-world production compared to initial plans, and begin positioning themselves for future opportunities in the film industry. The course culminates in the delivery of a completed action feature film, equipping students with the practical experience, critical understanding, and professional insight needed to thrive in a competitive, evolving creative landscape.
