The Sound Design degree is structured over three years, progressively building technical skills, creative exploration, and professional readiness. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills and cross-disciplinary immersion. Modules cover key areas such as audio theory, studio recording, non-linear sound design, and professional workflows, helping students understand how sound functions across various media. Courses like Understanding Sound & Audio and Studiocraft provide hands-on learning in using digital audio workstations and recording tools, while Music & Sound: Contexts and Cultures introduces critical thinking around the cultural role of sound. In the second year, students expand their practice through collaborative and industry-relevant projects. They specialise in areas such as editing, post-production, or sound for immersive environments, while also engaging with future-focused concepts in modules like Resonant Futures. Opportunities to explore optional areas like composing for media or immersive audio deepen their technical and creative skill set. The final year prepares students for industry through professional development and entrepreneurial planning. A dissertation allows for in-depth research into sound and music topics, while modules like Your Future equip students with essential legal, financial, and marketing knowledge. The degree culminates in the Showcase Portfolio, where students present a professional body of work that reflects their chosen specialism and prepares them for entry into the creative industries.
