COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the course, students build a strong foundation in music technology, theory, studio practices, songwriting, and live performance. Emphasis is placed on creativity, collaboration, and the development of technical and musical skills through modules like Playing Live, Pop Synthesis, and Studiocraft. Students explore both digital and analogue methods, engage in critical studies of music and culture, and begin to define their specialist practice through hands-on studio work and music-making sessions. This foundational year promotes self-awareness and embeds students in a vibrant creative community, preparing them for more advanced study.In the second year, students refine their creative direction and develop deeper expertise in songwriting, performance, music business, and artistic identity through both core and optional modules. They gain practical industry knowledge in modules like Professional Creative Artist & Songwriter and The Business of Music & Sound, while also exploring innovative topics such as immersive audio, audiovisual artistry, composing for media, and session musicianship. Collaboration continues to play a key role, with cross-disciplinary opportunities encouraging exploration beyond music into digital arts and performance.In the final year, students focus on professional readiness and artistic identity. Through a mix of academic and practical work—including a dissertation, professional development training, and career design modules—they sharpen their entrepreneurial mindset and expand their networks. The Showcase Portfolio serves as the culmination of their studies, offering a professionally curated body of work that reflects their creative evolution and career ambitions. The course equips students with the skills, confidence, and industry understanding to thrive in a diverse range of music and sound careers.
