The photography degree offers a progressive, hands-on learning experience across three years, equipping students with both technical expertise and critical understanding of the medium. In the first year, the focus is on building a strong foundation in photographic processes, including digital and analogue methods, studio and darkroom work. Students explore key cultural and critical contexts while developing confidence in specialist facilities. Modules like Process, Agency and Action introduce the practical and ethical dimensions of photography, encouraging students to consider sustainability, wellbeing, and the social impact of their creative work. Through projects and reflection, students begin to form their personal approach and engage with wider societal themes.In the second year, students deepen their creative and professional practice by experimenting with a wide range of genres and methods. Emphasis is placed on audience perception, collaboration, and the social relevance of photography. Modules such as Commitment and Collaboration help students apply their skills in real-world contexts, working with industry partners and engaging with ethical, sustainable practices. Experimentation is actively encouraged to foster creative risk-taking and conceptual growth.The final year focuses on preparing students for life beyond university. Through a mix of research, development, and practical output, students produce a sophisticated body of work that represents their personal vision and professional readiness.
