COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music degree is structured across three years to build technical, creative and professional capabilities for a sustainable career in the music industry. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills, immersing themselves in musicianship, performance, composition, and studio craft. They gain theoretical knowledge, explore contemporary music and sound practices, and develop their own creative voice through modules such as Musicianship & Performance, Composition & Creativity, and Studiocraft. Year two is designed to deepen specialisation and introduce professional music-making contexts. Students engage in collaborative projects, learn business and entrepreneurial principles, and select from a diverse range of optional modules that cover session musicianship, composing for media, immersive audio, songwriting, and more. This year encourages exploration of new media aesthetics and critical engagement with current global issues through music. In the final year, the focus shifts towards professional identity and industry readiness. Students undertake a research-based dissertation, develop a showcase portfolio that reflects their artistic direction, and receive targeted career support through modules like Professional Development and Your Future. Throughout the course, there is strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and adaptability, equipping students with the knowledge and experience to thrive as versatile music professionals across a variety of roles and creative industries.
