COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Business degree offers a comprehensive journey through the contemporary music industry, equipping students with practical skills, strategic knowledge, and creative insight. In the first year, students explore the foundational structures of the music industry, learning how different sectors—from live music to synchronisation—interconnect. Modules focus on artist and repertoire (A\&R), branding, and event production, while management principles are applied to self-leadership and artist development. Students gain early hands-on experience by planning and delivering a live event in collaboration with peers from other creative disciplines.In the second year, the focus shifts toward deeper industry engagement, including the legal and financial frameworks underpinning music business. Intellectual property, contracts, and negotiation are key themes, along with the exploration of merchandise, physical music formats, and promotional strategies. Students analyse the influence of genre and fan culture and work collaboratively on projects that blend creativity with business planning. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning towards personal interests, whether in promotion, project management, or synchronisation.The final year prepares students to enter the industry with confidence and a professional identity. They conduct independent research through a dissertation, refine their specialism in a professional development module, and develop advanced leadership skills. The course culminates in the creation of a final showcase project—such as a live event or digital portfolio—that reflects each student’s industry-ready abilities and personal direction.
