In the first year of the Game Development degree, students gain foundational knowledge and skills essential for creating games. They explore the full game development process, including project management, pipelines, and idea pitching. Students also examine game theory, studying how games function and engage players. Alongside shared core modules, students begin to specialise in one of four pathways—Art, Design, Programming, or Writing—allowing them to tailor their learning to specific interests and future career goals.In the second year, students build confidence in their chosen specialism and take part in a large-scale, collaborative game project that reflects real industry workflows. Working in multi-skilled teams, they research, test, and implement innovative features while focusing on player experience and emerging trends in game development. Insights from guest speakers offer a deeper understanding of the professional landscape. Through both core and specialist modules, students strengthen their practical and conceptual skills, preparing them for more complex development tasks and creative challenges.The final year centres on the production of a complete, potentially publishable game. Students work in teams to design, build, and pitch their projects to industry professionals, gaining valuable feedback. They also conduct focused research tied to their development work and build an online portfolio featuring their best work. This portfolio serves as a professional showcase, helping students stand out in a competitive job market. Throughout the year, students refine their expertise, professional presentation skills, and industry awareness, gaining the confidence and experience needed for a successful career in game development. The program’s structure supports both individual growth and teamwork, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for a variety of roles in the ever-evolving games industry.
