COURSE CURRICULUM

This Dance degree offers an intensive, practice-led journey into performance and choreography, combining technical training with creative exploration and theoretical context. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in contemporary dance and supporting practices such as ballet, Pilates, yoga, flow, and improvisation. Core modules focus on developing physical skills, creative expression, and critical awareness through studio-based work, lectures, and seminars. Students engage in site-based dance practices and begin making connections between theory and movement, while exploring diverse cultural and historical perspectives on dance.In the second year, the focus shifts toward applied techniques, performance projects, and choreographic development. Students deepen their physical abilities and gain further experience in creating and performing original work. Modules such as Dance Futures and Cross-Disciplinary Practices encourage students to consider their role in the wider cultural and social context, exploring sustainable practices and professional pathways. Students also learn to apply research methodologies and critically evaluate dance through academic writing, positioning themselves as thoughtful, responsive practitioners.The final year is student-led, allowing for focused exploration of personal interests through two major research projects that include both practical and written components. Advanced technique classes help refine movement precision and prepare students for professional-level dance environments. The year culminates in the Professional Practice Project, where students collaboratively produce, choreograph, market, and perform an original work for public audiences, reflecting real-world creative processes. By graduation, students will have developed a robust personal practice, strong performance and choreographic skills, and the academic and professional readiness to pursue careers in dance, performance, or further study.
