The Acting degree at Falmouth University is a three-year program designed to develop students into skilled, professional actors through practical training and theoretical exploration in a stunning coastal location. In the first year, students gain foundational skills through modules like Approaches to Acting, focusing on text analysis and rehearsal techniques, and Voice and Movement 1 and 2, which develop vocal and physical expressiveness for character portrayal. Culture and Contexts explores theatre and screen performance histories, while Character Improvisation and Live Performance Project 1 introduce practical performance skills. The emphasis is on collaboration, discipline, and using the local environment as inspiration. In the second year, students deepen their craft through modules like Screen Acting, which adapts skills for film, and Voice and Movement 3, refining expressiveness. Live Performance Project 2 involves rehearsing and performing under directorial guidance, while Playful Performer encourages creative risk-taking. Classical and Contemporary compares scripts for modern audiences, and Character Research hones academic and practical character development. The third year focuses on professional application, with Acting in Digital Modes exploring technology in performance and The Thinking Practitioner fostering student-led research. The Screen Project produces portfolio-quality recorded work, and Professional Preparation & Employability prepares students for industry auditions and career planning through CVs and presentations. The program culminates in Live Performance Project 3, a full-length production simulating a professional environment. Throughout, students build connections within the university, perform for audiences, and develop a professional portfolio, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to enter the acting industry or pursue further education.
