COURSE CURRICULUM
This full-time course is structured across six blocks, starting with foundational modules and culminating in a major project or dissertation. Block 1, Textile Technology and Sustainability, introduces the design and technological aspects of textile materials, focusing on fibre properties, material structures, and their environmental impact. It explores sustainable approaches like circular economy strategies, lifecycle analysis, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, alongside ethical considerations in production. Block 2, Specialist Research and Technical Skills, develops advanced research capabilities within fashion and textiles, emphasizing sustainable innovation and critical, ethical practices. In Block 3, students choose one of four modules. Supply and Sourcing explores practical supply chain management and sustainability in production planning. Technology for Design encourages investigation into innovative tools such as CAD, digital manufacturing, and prototyping. Digital Development focuses on 3D prototyping, XR, and digital communication for product development. Sustainability Strategy and Design explores the broader sustainability debate, covering issues like ethical supply chains, circular economy, and the environmental impact of production. Block 4, Product Performance and Manufacturing Technologies, investigates how material and component choices affect product quality, performance, and sustainability. Students engage in testing methods, manufacturing analysis, and sustainable design, with opportunities for off-site visits and guest lectures. For Blocks 5 and 6, students select one capstone project. The Major Design Project allows for a practical or theory-based focus, depending on post-graduation goals. The Work-based Project provides real-world experience with a fashion, textile, or design company, applying knowledge in a professional setting. The Dissertation option offers an academic route, allowing students to explore a self-chosen topic in depth. Alternatively, the Entrepreneurship Project guides students through creating a business plan, including market research, financial planning, and a pitch to a panel, aimed at launching a viable venture. This course combines academic theory, creative practice, and practical application to prepare students for diverse roles in the textile and fashion industries.
