COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing emphasizes the application of Quality by Design (QbD) principles and continuous improvement activities throughout the development and production of pharmaceutical products. The course is structured to ensure a balanced and comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process. The program consists of six blocks totaling 180 credits, with each block focusing on a core aspect of pharmaceutical production.Block One, Quality by Design: Fundamental Principles, introduces students to the legislation and regulations that govern pharmaceutical quality, providing a solid foundation in the principles of QbD. Block Two, Product Design: Formulation Development, focuses on the various techniques and methods involved in formulating and producing safe medicines. It offers an understanding of the scientific processes behind medicine formulation. Block Three, Process Design: Manufacturing & Process Analytical Technologies, delves into the design and control of manufacturing processes, emphasizing the understanding of material properties and critical process parameters. This block also explores the role of process analytical technologies in process identification, simulation, and control. Block Four, Biopharmaceuticals, examines the use of large molecules, especially biotechnologically derived ones, to produce therapeutically active products. Students learn about the production and use of biologically active molecules in the pharmaceutical industry.Finally, Blocks Five and Six focus on the Dissertation, where students apply their learning to a research or development project related to pharmaceutical manufacturing. The dissertation allows students to consolidate their knowledge of QbD principles and contribute original insights to the field. This comprehensive program equips students with the skills necessary to thrive in pharmaceutical manufacturing and quality assurance roles.
