COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology is structured into a series of comprehensive modules that provide students with a deep understanding of the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. The program begins with Block One, Cellular and Molecular Systems for Biotechnology, which covers the basic cellular building blocks and their application in producing biopharmaceuticals. This module introduces students to cell culture, gene isolation, and protein expression, addressing both the theoretical and practical aspects of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Block Two, Bioinformatics and Bioanalysis, focuses on bioinformatics and bioanalytical techniques. It explores their role in target identification and drug development, giving students an understanding of the research tools and methodologies used in molecular investigations. Block Three, Biopharmaceuticals & Biotechnology, delves into nucleic acid-based therapeutic strategies and targeted therapies, such as those used in cancer and immune system treatment. This module also explores the complex processes involved in developing, producing, and delivering biopharmaceuticals. Block Four, Research & Innovation, covers the product development process, including regulatory requirements, marketing, and management aspects. It also looks at enterprise and innovation theories and their application to small businesses within the biotechnology sector. Finally, Blocks Five and Six focus on the Research Dissertation, allowing students to carry out independent research in a topic aligned with pharmaceutical biotechnology. The dissertation provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of research methods and concepts to a real-world issue, culminating in a substantial piece of original research. The entire program equips students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the rapidly evolving field of pharmaceutical biotechnology.
