COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Mental Health and Wellbeing offers a comprehensive curriculum with a focus on both theoretical understanding and practical application. The program begins with the Introduction to Mental Health module, which explores key concepts, contemporary challenges, and critical insights into theories, research, policy, and practice related to mental health. It delves into the social determinants of mental health, particularly concerning marginalized groups such as BME communities, LGBT+ individuals, refugees, and those experiencing poverty or disability. The Introduction to Wellbeing module examines the concept of wellbeing, addressing positive emotions, life satisfaction, and psychological functioning in areas like work and relationships, with topics like disability, posttraumatic growth, and mindfulness. The Wellbeing in the Modern World module takes a broader view, exploring how factors such as digital technology, culture, ethnicity, and economic conditions impact wellbeing. The Mental Health and Wellbeing: Assessments and Interventions module focuses on psychological issues like anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, providing a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches. The program also includes two research methods modules: Research Methods for Applied Psychologists and Research Methods for Understanding and Evaluating Mental Health and Wellbeing. These modules help students build qualitative and quantitative research skills to assess and evaluate mental health and wellbeing. The program culminates in a 60-credit Research Dissertation, where students conduct original research on a mental health or wellbeing-related topic. Students have the option to exit early with a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma by completing a combination of modules. However, to achieve the full MSc, students must complete all modules and the dissertation. This program equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the field of mental health and wellbeing.
