COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Forensics course begins with Block 1: Foundations of Digital Forensics, where students are introduced to the theory and practice of digital forensics. This module covers the basics of digital forensics, from crime scenes to lab work, focusing on the ethical and legal implications and the tools used in the process. Students will practice working with digital devices and follow the initial stages of a digital forensics incident response lifecycle. Block 2: Artefact Analysis in Digital Forensics builds on the foundations, guiding students through the analysis process of digital devices using a variety of tools. The module emphasizes critical thinking, teamwork, and independent learning, ensuring the development of both technical and soft skills necessary for the profession. Block 3: Enterprise-focused Digital Forensics shifts the focus to digital forensics in enterprise environments. Students will learn to work with networks and volatile artefacts, applying their knowledge in networked environments and explaining technical details to non-technical audiences. Block 4: Research & Development in Digital Forensics focuses on enhancing students’ research skills in digital forensics. It covers both quantitative and qualitative research methods, including case studies and surveys, and prepares students to undertake critical research, including problem selection, literature review, data analysis, and dissemination of outcomes. The Blocks 5 & 6: PGT Project provide students with the opportunity to conduct an in-depth, self-managed study on a chosen problem or research topic. The project allows students to apply their acquired skills to real-world problems and can take various forms, including development, research, literature study, consultancy, data analysis, or conceptual analysis projects. Each project type is designed to demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge, with the scope to suit individual interests and career paths.
