COURSE CURRICULUM

The course begins with Block 1: Digital Design Studio, which introduces students to current digital design technology and creative management processes in a professional context. Students will explore advances in digital media, project management, prototyping, and testing, and apply these concepts in a group project. This module helps students tackle complex design issues while enabling them to apply their existing knowledge to new contexts. Block 2: Research and Design Methodology focuses on engaging with current design research and professional practices. Students will develop the ability to form independent judgments in unpredictable design situations and communicate these findings to both professional and non-specialist audiences. The module covers research design, data gathering and analysis, ethical practices, and presenting research findings. Block 3 offers three optional modules: UX and UI, Technology for Design, and Narrative Spaces. UX and UI prepares students for careers in design by teaching them how to improve user interfaces and experiences. Students will apply design principles and usability testing, with a focus on data security and privacy. Technology for Design explores technological advancements in design and manufacturing, encouraging students to investigate areas such as computer-aided design, virtual prototyping, and direct digital manufacturing. Narrative Spaces challenges students to explore how space design can convey a story, with a focus on modern retail environments and museums. Block 4: Design Problem Solving supports students in developing innovative approaches to complex design problems, using research and analytical tools. Students will gain confidence in working outside their disciplines and prepare for their Major Project. Blocks 5 and 6 offer a choice between Major Project, which emphasizes design practice and academic critical evaluation, and Work-based Project, which allows students to apply course skills in a practical context with a host organization.
