COURSE CURRICULUM

The course begins with Contour Foundations, a module aimed at introducing students to the fundamental concepts of the Contour specialism. It is designed for those new to the field, while also allowing students with prior experience to explore advanced areas. The module focuses on market analysis and the development of well-researched proposals for innovative Contour projects, with a strong emphasis on product design, functionality, and quality. Knowledge in pattern making, fit, and functionality within the Contour sector will be built upon, guiding students towards specialized understanding. Following this, Research Methods with Development Skills equips students with advanced research skills, focusing on the role of research in fashion and textiles. The module emphasizes sustainable development and technical skills, encouraging students to investigate areas of personal interest with a focus on innovation and sustainability.In Block 3, students can select from several modules, including Supply and Sourcing, which provides insight into the planning and production aspects of textiles and garment manufacturing, emphasizing sustainability and supply chain practices. Technology for Design allows students to explore technological advancements in design and manufacturing, ranging from computer-aided design to digital manufacturing. Digital Development introduces students to methods of digital product development and communication, using technologies like 3D prototyping, XR, and body scanning. Sustainability Strategy and Design covers sustainable design and corporate strategy, examining environmental and ethical issues in the industry and introducing alternative production models, circular economy concepts, and ethical supply chains.Contour Consolidation builds upon previous modules, encouraging students to develop their own Contour design studies. Students define clear objectives for their major projects, considering creativity, technology, sustainability, and cultural considerations. In Blocks 5 and 6, students can choose between Major Design Project, where they apply their knowledge to a comprehensive design project with a critical evaluation, or a Work-based Project, offering practical experience in a live industry setting. The Entrepreneurship Project provides an opportunity for students to develop entrepreneurial skills by turning a business idea into a viable business plan, preparing for market and financial analysis, and pitching to a panel of investors.
