COURSE CURRICULUM
The Computing MSc program offers an advanced and comprehensive understanding of core and contemporary topics in computing, preparing students for complex, real-world challenges. The course begins with the Business Analysis & Modelling module, which introduces systems analysis, ethical practice, and data modelling. Students explore the full lifecycle of systems development, from problem analysis and requirements gathering to the design and mapping of relational and non-relational databases. The module includes theoretical concepts such as relational theory, concurrency, and data security, while also engaging with ethical issues like privacy and data protection. In the second module, Enterprise Architecture, students examine the business and technical elements of IT systems, including operating systems, networks, and enterprise-level software infrastructure. The focus is on aligning IT strategy with organisational goals and achieving digital business transformation through effective enterprise architecture. Students also analyse the ethical implications of data governance and big data technologies. The third module, Digital Commerce, explores how e-commerce reshapes business models and interactions with stakeholders. Students investigate strategies for building digital platforms, developing user experiences, marketing, and planning digital integration. Practical work includes building e-commerce prototypes using tools like Figma, Wix, or Adobe XD, while also considering ethical, social, and legal challenges of digital commerce. In Block 4, the Human Factors, Research and Skills module introduces students to user-centred design principles and research methodologies. Students develop skills in qualitative and quantitative research, conducting pilot studies using questionnaires and interviews, and analysing data. These skills form the foundation for the dissertation and professional practice. The program concludes with the PGT Project, where students undertake a major research or development project. The project encourages independent thinking, complex problem-solving, and the integration of theoretical knowledge into practical applications. It allows students to explore innovative ideas, often resulting in a prototype, research study, or business solution, reflecting their learning across the course.
