COURSE CURRICULUM
The Fine Art postgraduate course provides a dynamic, research-led journey through contemporary artistic practice, designed to cultivate both conceptual depth and professional exhibition experience. It begins with Research Lab 1, a creative research module where students are introduced to artistic research methodologies through workshops and lectures. Here, students develop their own reflective and critical approaches to creative practice, forming personal philosophies informed by theoretical and contextual sources. Through a multidisciplinary platform, students enhance their creative research portfolio and deepen their understanding of the critical landscape surrounding their discipline. The second block, Experimental and Curatorial Practice, builds on this foundation by guiding students in the production of a body of contemporary artwork and supporting them through curatorial processes. Students explore display strategies and conceptual frameworks, culminating in a group exhibition that sharpens curatorial awareness and critical reflection. In Block 3, Research Lab 2 shifts focus to critical writing, encouraging students to develop an extended piece of written work. This module supports writing in multiple forms, such as journal articles, essays, or creative-critical texts, all aimed at contextualising and articulating the student's practice to an external audience. It enhances theoretical insight and positions student work within contemporary critical debates. In Block 4, students undertake a Research Residency, collaborating with an external partner. This immersive experience encourages site-specific investigation, translating previous research into material outcomes. Students are expected to demonstrate conceptual engagement with the location, supported by a structured project outline and culminating in an exhibition that evidences deep contextual and material understanding. Finally, Blocks 5 and 6 lead into Exhibitionary Practice, the culmination of the program. Students independently refine their practice, producing a resolved and experimental body of work for a major public exhibition. This final phase represents a professional showcase of their developed identity as contemporary artists, critically aware and creatively ambitious.
