COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Sustainability, Social Justice and Human Rights Law offers a comprehensive exploration of key global legal challenges across five blocks. The program begins with an examination of sustainability, climate change, and human rights, critically addressing environmental law, regulatory approaches, and links between energy management and human rights through contemporary case studies. It then moves to gender, sexuality, and minority rights, exploring issues such as gender identity, reproductive rights, violence, and discrimination, while also considering international law’s treatment of sexual orientation and the influence of social movements like MeToo and Black Lives Matter. The third block focuses on international human rights, humanitarian law, and refugee protection, covering the development and enforcement of International Humanitarian Law, protections for civilians, and legal principles guiding refugee rights, including those displaced by conflict and climate change. International child law is then studied, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, optional protocols, intercountry adoption, child labour, and socio-economic rights like access to education, healthcare, and housing. The final block is a dissertation, allowing students to undertake independent, in-depth research on a chosen topic with supervisor support, applying advanced theoretical and methodological skills. Collectively, the course develops critical expertise for careers in human rights law, policy, and research.
