COURSE CURRICULUM

The course focuses on practical aspects of legal practice, preparing students for real-world legalscenarios.Inn Block 1, Business Law & Financial Management in Practice, students will apply core legal principles to client-based problems. Topics covered include starting a business, corporate governance, taxation, financial services, and anti-money laundering regulations. Students will also learn about the financial management and compliance requirements of running a business, with a focus on ensuring legal adherence in various financial contexts.Block 2, Property Law & Administration of Estates in Practice, requires students to apply legal rules to property transactions and estate administration. Key areas include freehold and leasehold property transactions, planning law, taxation in property dealings, the administration of wills, and intestacy rules. Students will also gain an understanding of the duties of personal representatives and the administration of estates.In Block 3, Dispute Resolution in Practice, students will explore different dispute resolution methods such as arbitration, mediation, and litigation. The module covers procedural aspects of civil claims, including issuing proceedings, responding to claims, case management, evidence handling, and enforcement of judgments. Students will also learn about costs, appeals, and managing trial procedures.Block 4, Criminal Litigation in Practice, covers advising clients in criminal cases, including vulnerable individuals, on police procedures and rights. Topics include bail applications, trial procedures in both magistrates’ and Crown Courts, sentencing, and appeals. The block also provides an overview of criminal litigation processes and the key procedures involved.Block 5, Dissertation in Legal Practice, allows students to undertake independent research on a chosen legal topic. It involves creating a comprehensive dissertation, guided by a supervisor, that demonstrates advanced legal research, critical analysis, and scholarly writing. The dissertation provides an opportunity to explore a particular area of law in depth, building on skills developed throughout the program.
