COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM International Commercial Law and Practice program provides a comprehensive understanding of the key areas shaping global trade and business regulation. The first module focuses on commercial contracting, enforcement, and financing in international trade, introducing students to sales, carriage, insurance, and financing contracts while exploring international conventions such as the Vienna Convention and enforcement regimes. The second module examines intellectual property law within a global and European context, addressing international licensing, distribution agreements, enforcement mechanisms, treaties, and competition law while also considering cross-cultural perspectives. The third module covers competition law, consumer protection, and regulatory regimes, analysing UK and EU policies, antitrust practices, merger control, cartels, and unfair commercial practices, with comparisons to US approaches. The fourth module explores company and corporate insolvency law, comparing UK, EU, and US legal frameworks, with a focus on restructuring, recovery, and the impact of global challenges such as the post-pandemic context. The final dissertation module allows students to conduct independent, research-led study on a relevant area of law, building on skills in literature review, methodology, research ethics, and scholarly writing. The program develops advanced analytical, research, and practical skills, preparing graduates for careers in international law, business regulation, or further academic research.
