COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law program offers a comprehensive legal education, preparing students for both academic development and professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of legal study. The year begins with English and European Legal Systems, which outlines the structure and function of legal institutions and systems in the UK and Europe. This foundation supports the study of Criminal Law in Block 2, where students explore the elements of major offences and general principles of criminal liability. In Block 3, Contract Law focuses on the creation, content and regulation of contracts, equipping students with knowledge that applies to both everyday transactions and complex legal scenarios. The year concludes with Constitutional and Administrative Law, which explores how power is structured and exercised in the UK, including the roles of Parliament, the courts and the state's internationalobligations.Inn the second year, students deepen their legal understanding through core modules and optional specialist subjects. The year starts with Law of Tort, covering areas such as negligence, nuisance, trespass and liability. Land Law follows, offering insight into the complex system of rights and interests in land, including ownership, leases, and the role of land in broader social and economic contexts. Block 3, Inter-Professional Legal Skills, introduces professional ethics, time management and procedural awareness, enhancing employability and legal practice capabilities. In Block 4, students choose a specialist pathway, such as Family Law, Companies and Other Business Entities, Human Rights Law, Police Power and Public Order, or International Law, allowing them to begin tailoring their legal studies to specific interests or career goals.The final year further develops this specialisation and encourages critical and applied legal thinking. Block 1 begins with Equity and Trusts, which examines the management of property through trusts, including fiduciary duties and remedies for breach. In Block 2, students select from a range of specialist modules, including Law and Medicine, Commercial and Consumer Contracting, Social Justice in Law, Criminal Evidence, or EU Law, each of which allows for focused study of topical legal areas. Block 3 offers further specialisation with options such as Intellectual Property, Employment Law, Immigration and Refugee Law, Advanced Criminal Law, or International Child Law. Finally, in Block 4, students choose between completing an independent legal Project or undertaking SQE Preparation. The Project module allows students to explore a chosen area in depth with academic supervision, while the SQE Preparation route equips students with practical, practice-ready skills aligned with the Solicitors Qualifying Examination route.Overall, the program blends rigorous academic study with professional development, offering flexibility through specialist options and strong preparation for careers in legal practice or further study.
