COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of study, students are introduced to foundational psychological theories and essential academic skills. Block 1, Professional Skills for Psychologists, helps students build the academic and professional skills necessary to transition into higher education successfully. Block 2, Cognition, Brain, and Development: Theory and Research, explores the core paradigms of biological, cognitive, and developmental psychology while embedding quantitative research methods. Block 3 shifts focus to The Sports Ecosystem, offering students an introduction to the structure and roles of stakeholders in national and international sport, providing a broader understanding of how sport is governed and delivered. In Block 4, students return to psychology with Individual Differences and Social Psychology: Theory and Research, focusing on personality, social psychology, and intelligence from a theoretical and international perspective, while also developing qualitative research skills. In the second year, Block 1, Mind, Brain and Behaviour, offers a more in-depth exploration of biological and cognitive psychology with advanced research design. Block 2, Psychology Across the Lifespan, provides insight into human development from infancy to old age, emphasizing developmental interconnectivity. Block 3 centres around Sport Events and Operations, connecting students' understanding of the sports industry with planning and operational aspects of sporting events. In Part 2 of Block 3, students choose between Psychology and Mental Health or Psychology of Social Problems, allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests. Block 4 returns to core psychology, focusing on social psychology and personality, including the opportunity to carry out a research project. In the final year, Block 1 includes Conceptual and Historical Issues in Psychology and Employability Skills and Psychology, allowing students to reflect critically on psychological debates and gain hands-on work experience. Block 2 offers a broad selection of optional modules ranging from counselling and cognitive neuropsychology to data science and global cultural psychology. Block 3, Professional Opportunities in Sporting Contexts, helps students explore and prepare for careers in sport management and psychology. Finally, Block 4 culminates in the Psychology Project, where students design and conduct an original empirical study, showcasing their expertise and readiness for graduate opportunities.
