COURSE CURRICULUM
The Music Technology degree is designed to equip students with both technical and creative skills necessary for a career in the music and audio industries. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental skills. The "Introduction to Studio Recording & Production" module covers digital audio recording, mixing, mastering, and MIDI control, providing students with hands-on studio experience. "Ideas in Music & Technology" explores the intersection of music, technology, and culture, offering a critical understanding of contemporary sound-making. "Sound Analysis & Synthesis" teaches the physical and acoustical foundations of sound, using waveform and spectral representations to understand musical pitch, dynamics, and timbre. The "Industry Practice" module gives students insights into the music industry, including copyright, licensing, and the evolution of music delivery, alongside professional standards in studiopractice.Inn the second year, students build on their foundational knowledge with more specialized modules. "Creative & Professional Work: Presentation & Promotion" allows students to undertake creative projects, such as improvisation ensembles or electronic instrument building, while developing professional presentation skills. "Film, Games & Media" focuses on creating original music compositions and sound design in visual media contexts. "Studio Recording & Production" further develops studio skills, with an emphasis on advanced recording techniques and the application of effects. "Studio Technologies" provides a deep understanding of audio equipment, electronic circuits, and the acoustics of music production environments.In the final year, students refine their skills and knowledge. "Advanced Production Skills and Mastering" allows students to produce live recordings and manage production projects. "Digital Signal Processing" introduces essential mathematical tools and the theory behind digital filters and audio processing. "Live Sound and Location Recording" offers practical experience in sound production in real-world settings. The "Final Project" module enables students to engage in an in-depth research project, either written or practice-based, demonstrating their ability to manage and develop an independent study or creative work.
