COURSE CURRICULUM

This Computing and Cyber Security program provides a strong foundation in key technical skills and knowledge while progressively preparing students for advanced specialisations in areas like cryptography, malware analysis, and cyber-physical systems. In the first year, students begin with the Foundations of Computing and Cyber Security, which introduces core mathematical concepts like logic, Boolean algebra, and modular arithmetic, forming the theoretical base for understanding computing and cyber security. Secure Coding teaches fundamental programming through C++, emphasizing secure software development practices. Endpoint Security builds awareness of operating systems, computer ethics, and architecture, with a focus on their security implications. Business Infrastructure and Security explores networked systems, their function in organisations, and strategies for securing them. In the second year, the program shifts to more applied and business-focused content. Secure Scripting and Business Applications teaches database design, data ethics, and how scripting can protect against common vulnerabilities. Incident Response and Cyber Threat Intelligence prepares students for real-world threats, covering the incident response lifecycle, threat analysis tools, and security operations. Penetration Testing trains students to think like attackers, practicing ethical hacking techniques such as reconnaissance, privilege escalation, and vulnerability exploitation. Industrial Cryptography introduces essential principles and methods used in modern secure communications, from internet banking to data integrity. In the final year, students deepen their knowledge of critical systems and attacker techniques. Cyber Physical Systems Security focuses on safeguarding infrastructure like power and telecom systems through integrated computing and communication controls. Malware and Attacker Techniques equips students to analyze malware, understand its behaviours, and investigate advanced threats using reverse engineering. The degree culminates in a Final Project, where students independently apply technical, analytical, and creative skills to address a real-world problem. The program blends theoretical rigor with practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for roles in the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
