COURSE CURRICULUM
In Year 1, students will develop foundational knowledge and skills in general engineering tools and principles. Block 1 covers basic mathematical techniques, mechanical and electronic principles, and their applications through calculations and experiments. Block 2 builds on these concepts with a focus on multivariable functions, matrices, and differential equations, along with statistics and probability in engineering. Block 3 introduces aeronautical design, flight mechanics, MATLAB programming, and thermodynamics, with practical applications in computational engineering. Block 4 extends these principles, focusing on aircraft design, CAE tools, advanced MATLAB techniques, and deeper thermodynamics related to jet engine analysis.In Year 2, students build on the foundational knowledge from Year 1 with advanced engineering concepts. Block 1 covers mathematics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer, including vector calculus, Bernoulli equations, and heat transfer modes essential for aircraft design. Block 2 focuses on dynamic systems, vibration analysis, instrumentation, and control systems, with practical applications in MATLAB/Simulink. Block 3 explores aircraft structures and flight dynamics, including airframe materials, flight stability, and control systems. Block 4 emphasizes design and project management, teaching advanced CAD, Finite Element Analysis, and the principles of managing engineering projects, including cost and risk analysis.In Year 3, students focus on advanced topics in human factors, propulsion systems, and project-based learning. Block 1 covers human factors in aviation, flight safety, pilot performance, and aviation management, including topics like fatigue, stress, human error, and airline operations. Block 2 dives into jet-engine propulsion, including thermodynamics, combustion analysis, fluid mechanics, and aero-engine noise. Blocks 3 and 4 are project-based modules, where students select individual projects, supported by supervisors and teaching teams. Projects may involve modelling, simulation, programming, and analysis in areas such as aircraft structures, fluid dynamics, flight simulators, or materials design, tailored to career paths in aeronautical and mechanical engineering.
