COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Technology program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the technical, creative, and theoretical skills needed for careers in the music and audio industries. In the first year, students are introduced to digital audio recording, mixing, and mastering, alongside foundational skills in sequencing, MIDI control, and audio signal processing. They also explore the historical and philosophical context of music and technology, critical listening, and sound analysis. Practical work and self-directed study are key components, fostering the development of both creative and technical abilities. In the second year, students undertake creative projects that develop their professional practice, such as improvisation ensembles or electronic instrument building. They also explore sound design for film, games, and media, and gain advanced skills in studio recording and production. The second year emphasizes independent learning, with students working on original projects that integrate technology in the creation of music and sonic arts. The third year challenges students with more advanced production techniques and real-world applications, including live sound recording and location recording. Students engage in collaborative projects that involve multimedia and interdisciplinary practice, as well as advanced production and mastering techniques. In addition, students develop a personal portfolio of original creative work, reflecting their technical proficiency and creative vision. The final year culminates in an independent project, where students can choose to focus on a written dissertation or a practice-based investigation. This project encourages students to apply their skills, manage their own research, and produce a body of work that demonstrates their readiness for the professional music technology field. The program balances theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, preparing students for a wide range of careers in music production, sound design, and multimedia.
