COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media & Communication degree offers a dynamic and flexible structure with core and optional modules across three years. In the first year, students engage with modules like Media: Identities and Representations, which explores how media constructs cultural identities, Media Industries, which focuses on globalization in media, and Media, Culture and Society, which introduces key debates and theoretical models in media studies. Students also have the option to choose a route module from areas like Film Studies, Journalism, Creative Writing, English Literature, History, or Drama. The first year also includes a practical New Media module, Website Design and Coding, where students develop creative digital skills. In the second year, core modules such as Digital Cultures, Streaming Cultures, and Global Subcultures and Music delve deeper into emerging trends in digital media and culture. Students can continue with their first-year route module or choose new options from subjects like Journalism or Creative Writing. Another core module, Researching Media and Communication, prepares students for their final-year dissertation. The third year focuses on advanced topics like Global Communications and Strategic Advertising Management, Writing for the Screen, and Sport and Media, exploring the intersection of media with other sectors. Students continue with their chosen route module or opt for a new one, with choices like British Cinema or Music, Film and Entertainment Journalism. The degree culminates with the Dissertation, an independent research project that allows students to apply their learning and skills to a topic of their choice. This degree provides a balance of theoretical grounding and practical experience, preparing students for diverse careers in media and communication.
