COURSE CURRICULUM

The Journalism course offers a practical and academic pathway that equips students with essential skills and experiences across multiple platforms, preparing them for the fast-paced media industry. In the first year, the module Introducing News Reporting develops core reporting skills across digital, print, and social media platforms. It also introduces students to key journalism concepts and future areas of study through practical workshops, tutorials, and self-directed learning. This is followed by Digital News Production Project, where students apply their accumulated skills in a real-world journalism context, producing a practical final project that enhances employability. Video and Audio Journalism allows students to build technical proficiency in editing, filming, and audio production. Additionally, students can choose an optional module from areas such as Film Studies, Media and Communication, Creative Writing, or History to broaden their learning. The year concludes with Understanding Journalism and Media Law, a module that explores journalism’s societal role and introduces essential legal knowledge through workshops and lectures. In the second year, students deepen their expertise through Feature Writing and Lifestyle Journalism, where they develop compelling long-form writing and page design skills while examining the cultural relevance of lifestyle media. Beyond News encourages creative writing through opinion pieces and reviews, alongside studying theories of constructive journalism. TV and Radio Journalism teaches production skills specific to broadcast media. Students can continue with their optional module path or switch focus. The year ends with Magazine Journalism, where students create a magazine from concept to content, simulating real-world editorial collaboration. The final year begins with Journalism Projects, offering a choice between a dissertation or a practical journalism project. In Block 2, students choose between Specialism Journalism, which enhances digital publishing and career-readiness, or Podcasting, Photojournalism and Visual Culture, which explores emerging formats and visual storytelling. In Block 3, students select between Sports Journalism, Music, Film and Entertainment Journalism, or continue with their chosen academic route. The final module, either Journalism Dissertation or Negotiated Journalism Project, allows students to independently research or create a substantial piece of work that reflects their skills and professional interests.
