COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive exploration of political, historical, and international relations themes, preparing students to critically engage with global and local challenges. Year 1 focuses on key concepts and ideologies in political theory, such as the role of political institutions in shaping social and political change. It also introduces students to critical topics in history, including war, ideology, and global challenges like inequality and sustainability. Through modules such as "Journeys and Places," students explore geographical and social concepts, examining topics like identity, mobility, and sustainability, while "Global Challenges" focuses on contemporary political issues like poverty, inclusion, and capitalist development. In Year 2, the program delves into global Cold War history, studying its geopolitical dynamics, propaganda, and lasting legacies. The "Exploring Work and Society" module prepares students for professional careers, while "Not in Westminster" challenges traditional political narratives, exploring local democracy and community action. "Global Political Economy" offers insights into the world economy, analyzing power structures and social injustices. Year 3 offers advanced modules such as "Empire and its Aftermath," which covers decolonization and post-colonial struggles, and "Tackling Global Crises," where students negotiate and propose solutions to contemporary global issues. The final dissertation modules in both politics and history provide students with the opportunity to conduct in-depth research on a topic of personal interest, culminating in a substantial, independent academic project.
